Pippa Newell inducted into Gold Humanism Honor Society

Sept 2005. Dear Pippa, As you know, you were awarded the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Student Award from the University of Arizona in 2003. We recently heard an extremely moving story from one of our donors and friends, Raphael Benaroya, whose father was a recent patient of yours at Englewood Hospital. His story about you and the connection you established with his family reaffirmed our faith and belief in the importance of recognizing role model physicians like you. With that in mind, we would like to invite you (and a guest) to attend our annual “friendraiser,” which will be held Sunday evening, October 2, at the home of one of our donors in Englewood, NJ. We’re hoping that at the event you would speak to your experience with Raphael and his family as well as what being awarded the humanism in medicine honor meant to you. Raphael will be there as well to share his account. We will then induct you into the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS), a society which includes medical students, residents, and faculty recognized as exemplary role models for humanistic behavior. Established in 2002, a chapter of the GHHS is now at 48 medical schools. The presentation about the Gold Foundation will begin at 6:15 and will be followed by a live jazz performance and dinner, which we hope you could stay for. We know as a surgical resident it is not easy to get time off, let alone part of a night, but if you were able to join us, dare we say it would be the highlight of the evening. Look forward to hearing from you and hopefully meeting you before too long. Best wishes, Allison
